Find out what you can do today to make family dinner more special

On occasion, the only time of the day everyone is at home at the same time is during family dinner. Mornings are for rushing to school or work; the afternoon, and sometimes even until the evening, is when the entire family gets together to eat. If this is the case for you, here are three things you can do to make the most out of the time spent during family dinner. Remember, quality over quantity!

Cook together
Get your kids to cook with you and delegate family dinner tasks so they know their involvement is important. Cooking together helps get the conversation started without much effort. Plus, it’s a great time for them to learn about the ingredients that go into every dish.

Pick easy recipes for the little ones, like mixing the cold ingredients in a Macaroni Salad. They’ll surely enjoy stirring the Hellmann’s® or Best Foods® Real mayonnaise they love. And don’t forget to share the family recipes with them, like the secret addition of Hellmann’s® or Best Foods® Real mayonnaise for the Juiciest Grilled Chicken Parmesan. Start them young and, who knows, you might be raising a future chef!
Tune out distractions
Turn off the TV and the computer already! Show your kids you’re interested in talking with them about their day. And to make these precious moments last a little longer, you can even make dishes that take more time to cook like Chipotle Pork Chops with Apple and Onion.

Invent your own table traditions
To enjoy family dinner all the way down to the last second, create activities your family can enjoy after dinner or during dessert. You can play a board game or listen to music; the point is to connect with your family in a fun way. Also, your kids can help out during dessert by serving and putting on their own toppings on their Chocolate and Cinnamon Pancakes with Peanut Butter Frosting. They’ll surely develop useful skills while having fun and spending time with the family.
